Gonzalez Hints At Retirement, Launches App

Though the legendary tight end didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, he’s still grabbing tons of headlines.

As we all know now, it’ll be the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens taking the field next Sunday for the 47th annual Super Bowl. And while we would have loved to see Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez get a shot at his first (and most likely only) ring, it was not meant to be.

But that doesn’t mean that Tony won’t be busy in the next several weeks. Almost immediately after finishing up the Falcons season, the 36-year-old superstar announced that he was launching his first mobile app.

Partnering with FitStar Labs, Gonzalez has lent his name to a new fitness program which can be downloaded to both Smartphones and the iPad. “FitStar: Tony Gonzalez” will reportedly act as a virtual trainer, introducing users to regimens based on their age, weight and strength.

“I’m extremely proud to be working with such an awesome group of folks who are passionate about improving the health of individuals with engaging and entertaining apps,” Tony said in a statement. “FitStar truly is a dynamic, immersive and inspirational way to help people reach their health and fitness goals. I’m really excited about the promise 'FitStar: Tony Gonzalez' holds in making a positive impact on the wellness of the country as a whole.”

Of course, the FitStar app isn’t the only reason Gonzalez is trending at the moment. Several sports bloggers are predicting that he may be stepping away from the NFL for good after this year. Tony has made some incredible plays during the past 15 seasons and currently holds records for touchdown receptions and total reception yards. And, as he told reporters after Atlanta’s loss to San Francisco, that may be enough for him to call it a career.

"It's probably the last time I'm going to wear that uniform. I didn't want to take it off, to tell you the truth. All good things come to an end and like I said all season long, this is probably the last one," Tony said.

"What an unbelievable ride."

Well the good news is, the ride can continue now that you have the option of having Gonzalez on your Smartphone. Look for his new FitStar app to arrive by mid-spring.

Will you be sad to see Tony leave the NFL?
