Time to start making space on your iPod, this year promises a ton of new music from your favorite Latino artists. And if that wasn’t enough, the Hispanic presence on the big screen will be just as impressive, with a host of multicultural movie stars headlining some major blockbusters.
On the music front, Colombian-blooded "American Idol" alum Jason Castro is dropping one of the first big albums of 2013. His "Only A Mountain" is set to arrive on January 15 and promises to connect with fans on a much deeper level than his 2010 debut. As Jason told Billboard.com, “[This record] is definitely a snapshot of the last few years of my life. I hope it inspires people in their own journeys.”
Mexican pop princess Belinda also has a highly-touted album set for the new year. Her "Catarsis" record will arrive in March and includes a collaboration with the one-and-only Pitbull. Though the songs will be entirely in Spanish, many are betting that it will have some major crossover appeal, particularly because of its club and dance tracks.
Selena Gomez is also set to release some fresh tracks in 2013 and is reuniting with her old band The Scene. Gossip blogs are already predicting that her new album will have a harder electric edge and plenty of makeup and breakup songs (as evidenced by her on-again/off-again relationship with Justin Bieber).
As far as movies go, Zoe Saldana’s "Star Trek: Into Darkness" will easily be one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer. This epic sci-fi sequel reunites the entire original cast and clips from the trailer feature the part-Puerto Rican star brandishing some impressive laser guns.
Reggaeton star Don Omar will be back on the big screen this May for "Fast Six." Seeing how the last installment from the Fast & Furious franchise scored over $600 million at the box office, there is no doubt that this sequel will hit big. And rumor has it Michelle Rodriguez and Eva Mendes will be joining El Don for the ride.
Salma Hayek should be making some waves at the box office too this summer too, with the release of "Grown Ups 2." Adam Sandler movies always attract a massive amount of moviegoers and this fun-loving sequel pairs him and Salma with Chris Rock, Kevin James, Rob Schneider and David Spade. We’re sure it will deliver big laughs (and big bucks) when it arrives on July 12.Which Latino artists are you most excited to see in 2013?
